Marina La Cruz de Huanacaxtle is the jump-off for both of our multi-day offshore boats — deep water within reach and the range to stay on the tuna for days at a time.
Both of our offshore programs run out of Marina La Cruz de Huanacaxtle, on the northern shoulder of Banderas Bay in the Mexican state of Nayarit. It is a working marina rather than a resort dock — which is exactly why the boats are there.
What makes this coast worth the flight is range. These are multi-day charters, not half-day runs, so the boats can leave the near-shore pressure behind entirely and keep working offshore water for two, three, even five and a half days at a stretch. Yellowfin tuna is the target, and the vessels are rigged around keeping them — live-bait tanks going out, an RSW fish hold and vacuum-sealing coming back.
Puerto Vallarta International is the practical arrival airport, roughly a half-hour up the coast from the marina.
